Playing Nurse

I Got to use my First Aid Kit tonight… I’ve been so excited to pull it out and use it since I made it! In case you missed my “How To” on making one you can go HERE and check it out!!

So what happen?

Yesterday was a busy day as I finished up all my Christmas shopping, Cards and Packages. As I was filling my final package to go to the post office I may have “Over” stuffed it and broke the big glass frame I had pictures in. I removed the glass and threw it away.

Ralph: What did you do with the Broken Glass??
Sarah: I threw it in the Trash.
Ralph: No I mean how did you throw it away?
Sarah: I walked over to the trash and threw it in.
Ralph: You can’t throw glass away like that you need to put it in something.
Sarah: It’s fine.

Tonight: (Trash Day Tomorrow)

Ralph takes out the trash…..Comes in mangled. So much for him remembering that I “improperly” threw out glass!

Negative side: Ralph has a Gash
Positive: He does not need stiches (I don’t think) and I get to use My FIRST AID KIT
Oh and this is what Happens when you try to put Hello Kitty Bandages on Ralph…..
Although I was Cracking up Laughing as he one handedly stuck one to my forhead and hair!! Atleast he is in good spirits, Love you Hunny xoxo  G'Night Everyone

Eggnog History and Origin of New England Holiday Drink

The origins, etymology, and the ingredients used to make the original eggnog drink are debated. Eggnog may have originated in East Anglia, England; or it may have simply developed from posset, a medieval European beverage made with hot milk. The "nog" part of its name may stem from the word "noggin", a Middle English term used to describe a small, carved wooden mug used to serve alcohol. However, the British drink was also called an Egg Flip (from the practice of "flipping" (rapidly pouring) the mixture between two pitchers to mix it). Another story is that the term derived from "egg and grog", a common Colonial term used for the drink made with rum. Eventually that term was shortened to "egg'n'grog", then "eggnog".

In Britain, the drink was popular mainly among the aristocracy; dairy products and eggs were rarely consumed by the lower classes due to their high cost and lack of refrigeration. Those who could get milk and eggs mixed it with brandy, Madeira or sherry to make a drink similar to modern alcoholic egg nog.

The drink crossed the Atlantic to the English colonies during the 18th century. Since brandy and wine were heavily taxed, rum from the Triangular Trade with the Caribbean was a cost-effective substitute. The inexpensive liquor, coupled with plentiful farm and dairy products, helped the drink become very popular in America. When the supply of rum to the newly-founded United States was reduced as a consequence of the American Revolutionary War, Americans turned to domestic whiskey, and eventually bourbon in particular, as a substitute.              ~Thanks Wikipedia for the info :)

They have these shaped stencils at the Dollar Tree....Its so easy to make these drinks look really special. Simply hold the stencil over the cup and sprinkle a generous amount of nutmeg over it when you take the stencil away from your cup you will see this beautiful design.

Homemade Colonial Eggnog Recipe

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 1 cups granulated white sugar
  • 2 cups heavy cream, divided
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1 cup dark rum
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together egg yolks and granulated sugar until thick and pale yellow. Set aside.
  2. Combine one cup heavy cream, milk and vanilla in a large saucepot on medium heat. Heat slowly until hot and just about to simmer.
  3. Slowly pour hot milk into egg mixture, stirring continuously to temper. Pour back into saucepan.
  4. Continue heating on medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture begins to thicken slightly. Do not allow mixture to come to a boil or it will curdle.
  5. Remove from heat, stir in cinnamon and nutmeg, then set aside to cool. Meanwhile, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  6. Fold in egg whites into custard, along with remaining heavy cream. Add alcohol if desired. Sprinkle with nutmeg before serving. Serves 6.

Holiday Prep

Getting Ready For the Holiday Season...

Last night was a Magical night in our Home, Ralph and I made Hot Chocolate and lit the first Christmas Seasoned Yankee Candles in our home, had the “Fire place” on ;) as we took up bin after bin of Christmas decorations while playing some of our Favorite Christmas music. As we decorated the tree the dogs were so silly as they decided the best place to lie down was on the purple mesh that I was pinching to put on our Tree. I think Ralph had the most Fun…As he peeked in the Target bags and realized I had bought him a helicopter…Yes-He wanted a toy helicopter, I have no idea why but of course I let him have it and he flew it all around the living room while I put the finishing touches on the tree.
When the tree was done, Ralph and I made a sweet treat in the kitchen and watched a holiday movie as I of course multitasked and wrapped some of our gifts. This year one of my new-year resolutions was to do 5 ecofriendly things that were creative. After much thought one of them was, I will NOT use wrapping paper this year at Christmas. All of my gifts will be wrapped in newspaper and brown paper bags. I’m so excited about this and it actually looks super cute!! I have lots of ribbon in my house and will make all my tags homemade too!  I donated all my wrapping paper to a local shelter and the money I would have spent on wrapping paper will be donated to the ASPCA.

*Most people donate toys to various organizations but they often go unwrapped because families are also unable to afford wrapping paper, a lot of the fun of getting presents at Christmas is being able to unwrap them, seeing the pretty colorful paper and the mystery and wonder of what Santa has brought them. Most people buy to much wrapping paper so if you have extra think about donating it :o)
Oh and Did I mention I finished ALL of my holiday Shopping!!!! YIPPEE Now I just have to finish wrapping it all, but that's the easy part :o)
Look at these ornaments...wish I would have seen them three weeks ago! They would have went perfect with my theme this year! I saw these on tumbler...wish there was a link(one of the many reasons I hate tumbler!) but I'm thinking they are made with newspaper, mod podge and glitter...maybe next year I will do a "Recycle theme" again...Hmmmm
The Most Delicious Sweet treat, Thanks Nicole for the idea!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and for those of you decorating your homes enjoy every minute of it, remember it’s the little things that make the Holidays so special.

You can check out Ralph's new toy HERE  haha :o) LOVE HIM!

Turkey Day

Thanksgiving came and went so fast, where does the time go. I don’t know if it’s me or does it seem like this year is flying by?! Thanksgiving Day was perfect, we did our Traditions that make the day always feel so special, Ralph and I fall asleep with the curtains open, we never set an alarm for Thanksgiving day as we always get up to the light shining through. I woke up first and made some Homemade Blueberry Muffins, put on the Macy’s Day Parade and cleaned the House. Ralph and the Dogs were up an hour later and we settled down and relaxed before we headed out for the day.

This morning was funny when we started getting ready, Ralph was in the shower and I picked out his clothes. When he came up stairs he laughed at the Purple Ralph Lauren button up dress shirt, Grey Brooks Brothers Tie and Khaki Gap pants I had laid out. I liked LOVED the outfit I had picked out, it matched mine perfectly. I told him to pick something out that he thinks I would like, he went with a Cream RL polo and Gap jeans, so hesitantly I agreed, you can’t win every battle and he told me I could pick out his Christmas outfit so I agreed. ;) (I like to match hehe)

I changed out of my purple Dress and put a more dressed down outfit on, although I was completely happy with it and way more comfortable! We left for Ralph’s mom’s house, of course 20 minutes later than we intended…Ralph’s fault ;) We had the most unbelievable Thanksgiving dinner, talked, laughed and shared stories. Played with the new Baby on his very first Thanksgiving, stuffed ourselves with pies and pastries, as Ralph’s mom packed up containers of leftovers to take home (Ralph’s favorite part,  Turkey sandwiches’ & Turkey soup for Friday!)  Said our goodbye’s and I love you’s and headed to my family’s our second destination. We arrived just in time for more dessert!! We rolled out of the house...

On to the third and final destination, my friend Sonia’s house. As I pull in (second time since she and her husband moved there) I pulled up to the building and walked over to a buzzer panel and looked for her name or her new last name and couldn’t find either as I stand there unable to get into the building I call her phone (no answer) Hmmmm what to do, Ring a couple of buzzers...nothing, I walk around to the side and see through the bottom slide and glass door a bruins emblem hanging on the wall, Christmas lights and a couch that I was sure was hers…The door is open and I walk right in (no need to knock we have been friends for 10+ years) One foot through the door and I realize this is NOT their apartment!! Thought I heard someone in the other room say “hello” and I slam the door shut and jump in my car, I swear it wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without something Crazy and Hilarious happening. *sorry Sonia never “officially” made it over but love the yearbook picture you sent me hahaha

I drive home and pass out before heading out with the rest of the Black Friday Crazies that I said I would Not go out with. The absolute PERFECT Thanksgiving!

Here are some Pictures from our day….

I feel so Blessed, truly grateful for all the things in my life. We definitely had the 4 F's that always follow our Thanksgiving day......FOOD~FAMILY~FRIENDS~FOOTBALL

Now I will spend this Beautiful Friday Decorating our Home for Christmas, having Leftovers (thanks Sharon!), Renting Movies, and Enjoying the LONG weekend with my Love, Ralph.
